Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Parks
A visit to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks in April of 2024. Although there are no crowds at this time of year, the animals are also just starting to come out and there is still snow in a lot of areas. We actually started in Grand Teton National Park and spent three days there. On our first day, as we were entering, we were fortunate enough to see a huge male grizzly on a fresh elk kill. I did capture this in photos but I will not share them, but it was a sight to see. Being able to witness wildlife do what comes natural to them for survival. Grand Teton National Park has a 42 mile loop drive. It can only be completely done May 1st through October 31st, as Teton Park Road (the inner road) is closed to all automobiles from November 1st to April 30th. We were only able to do the east side of the loop being that the west side was still closed due to snow on the roads. We also made time to go down Mormon Row and see the Moulton Barns which have a beautiful backdrop of the Tetons. Along all the driving keep an eye out for wildlife as you will most likely see something. After three days in Grand Teton we then made our way over to Yellowstone and spent another three days driving all through the park. With it still being early in the spring, again not a lot of animal sightings. So if you are looking for bear sightings, I would suggest waiting a few more weeks or at least until mid to late May. But it was nice to have cool weather and no crowds. We did see a lot of bison, one coyote and on the way out on our last day we say a few bears down below the road. With beautiful weather it was still enjoyable to see all the landscape of Yellowstone and also seeing Old Faithful.
I do recommend doing your research for both of these parks. Yellowstone is pretty easy to figure out on what to do as it is a very popular destination and there is a lot of information to gather and plan. When it came to planning for Grand Teton National Park, honestly, I was stumped! But I was able to find a wonderful guide to buy at a very good price and use. I HIGHLY recommend this to buy, download and print to use, plan and take with you. I get absolutely nothing from this but I always love sharing to help out, so, I’ve put the link below for the guide.
